Approvals¶
For: all users
Approvals are Fluvial' sign-off gate: a transmittal cannot be issued until every approval role your account requires has signed off on it. They give you formal QA control without a separate review system.
The three approval roles¶
There are exactly three approval roles: drafter, designer, and manager. They are capabilities held by users, not job titles:
- Each user can hold any combination of the three (new users start with all three; admins adjust per user in the Users view).
- A user holding several roles may approve more than one role on the same transmittal.
- Each role can be approved at most once per transmittal.
Which approvals are required?¶
An admin chooses account-wide which of the three roles are mandatory, in Account settings. Require all three for a full drafter → designer → manager chain, just one for a lighter touch, or none to disable the gate entirely. By default, no approvals are required.
Changing the required set takes effect immediately for every draft transmittal; issued transmittals keep the approvals they were issued with.
Approvals reset when the documents change¶
An approval is a statement about a specific set of documents. So:
- Adding, removing, or replacing a document version on a draft transmittal clears all approvals — everyone signs off again on the new set.
- Editing metadata — the transmittal's name or its recipients — does not reset approvals.
What an approval records¶
Each approval records who signed off, as which role, and when. On issue, the approvals are frozen into the transmittal's permanent record and appear in its history.
